Women’s Issues CommitteeSpring 2010 Become an Expanding Your Horizons Ambassador Last summer Expanding Your Horizons at UCSC earned a Symantec Corporation grant support through the Expanding Your Horizons Network, enabling a new outreach project for our program, featuring the Ambassadors Program. Not only have we been able to publish a flyer (view .pdf) about EYH at UCSC, but also we have worked with a local videographer to produce a 5 minute movie that shows our EYH Conference in action. I hope you will have a moment to visit our website and view the movie. Women’s Commission Opening for 5th District!Apply Now! Expanding Your Horizons Moves to the Fall Young Women Get Real Feel for Careers Needing Math & Science For the first time since it came to Santa Cruz County, Expanding Your Horizons will be held in the Fall. Young women, in 9th through 12th grades from throughout Santa Cruz County, are invited to the EYH conference on Saturday, Oct. 9 at UCSC. This remarkable opportunity, offered to students for free, offers them the chance to see and hear and connect with extraordinary women whose exciting careers require education in math and/or science. This hands-on experience is a real motivation for young women to take these classes. VWC Women’s Committee Chair, Sheila DeLany, and VWC Board Member, Donna Ziel, are among those organizing the program. YOU can help too, by making a cash donation to help cover expenses, or by suggesting someone to give a workshop. Another way to help is to volunteer for their fundraising efforts or by collecting items for the presenters’ gifts, or to help the day of the event. Contact Sheila at The Blind Pilot Jewelers in Boulder Creek, 338-4436 if you have questions or want to help.
