GREEN SOLUTIONS WORKSHOP FILM SEGMENTS ON COMMUNITY TV OR ONLINE
The April 12 workshop, “Green Solutions For Everyday Living,” presented by the VWC’s Environmental Committee for the SLV, was filmed by Felton filmmaker, Tamara Lynn Scott. The Workshop featured the problems of non-point source pollution from vehicles, animals and households, with experts providing the ways and means for preventing toxins from endangering our homes and our watershed, and excellent Q&A sessions.
Tamara filmed the four-hour workshop and edited it into 5 1/2-hour segments and has made them available on-line and on Community Television. (DVD’s will also be available soon; check back to the VWC website for information.) Tamara added a moving original theme song, “United,” to the videos. She donated the production of four of the five segments because of her belief in the importance of the project, for which the VWC is deeply grateful.
After an introduction by Environmental Committee Chair, Nancy Macy, the first segment covers a presentation by Ryan Devonshire (Master Automotive Technician from Ernie’s Service Center in Felton); Ryan had some surprises while discussing the various fluids vehicles need for operation, how they can cause pollution problems, which are less toxic, and how to make decisions regarding effective maintenance.
The second segment features Jennifer Harrison of Ecology Action who discussed the way to prevent erosion and pollution from domestic animals, especially erosion, soil degradation and handling manure. Since the County Resource Conservation District, teamed with Ecology Action, has a program (including funding) for assisting animal owners with these issues, even long-time problems can be improved.
The third segment brings out the problem of drainage on/from rural roads and all homes. Uncontrolled runoff can cause severe erosion problems, destroying roads and culverts, and causing gullies and slides. Road Program Manager, Ezra Neale, from the Resource Conservation District, with input from Angie Stuart, Program Specialist also from the RCD, had excellent guidelines and proven techniques for reducing these problems. Again the RCD can provide important assistance.
The fourth segment, after additional information from Ezra Neale, features Environmental Writer, Tai Stills, who is active on the VWC Environmental Committee and produced the new NonPoint Source Pollution brochure which introduces residents to the issues covered in the Workshop; the brochure was mailed to all businesses and residences in the SLV. Tai discussed our personal contribution to pollution and presented products (provided by Felton New Leaf Market) which can keep our homes and septic systems healthier and reduce pollution enormously.
The final segment will have you making your own non-toxic, inexpensive and effective household cleaners, animal shampoos and flea powder, and other household products. Eco-Alchemist, Stephanie Sellers Sakasai, of ARO by design, and an Environmental Committee member, gives a convincing argument of the need to find alternatives to the common household products which are expensive to buy and toxic to use. A preview of Stephanie’s upcoming book, featuring her amazing recipes for these alternatives, will soon be available at the VWC website so you can make your own.

We are United together,
Every link entwined.
We are United together,
in each dream that shines.
We are United together
in our reasons why.
Be who you are.
Be who you are.
It's all we are.
United.
United.
United.
United."
We are a part,
the soul and the heart.
We are the try,
the secret of wise.
Here in our heart.
Here in our mind.
Here in our eyes
the secrets of time.
We are beginning to open our eyes,
only beginning
to see,
realize,
One World.
United together
Every link entwined.
We are United together,
