Board News


VWC MINUTES FOR JANUARY 8, 2008

Attending:  Beth Benjamin, Michele Mosher, Nancy Gerdt, Hilary Stanley, Nancy Macy, Sheila DeLany, Donna Zeil, Sanda Speigel

Refreshments provided by Mary Hammer and ???

6:50 Beth called the meeting to order.  Miinutes approved as written.

Announcements:  Donna noted a donation of $250 to scholarship committee in honor of her Mother,  by Emma Gilbreth.  Larry Le Bron donated $500 to the Environmental Committee.
         The Art Center is featuring a new show, “Purple Visions,” which people are encouraged to attend; opening event Friday, 1/11, 6 pm.
         BCBA being cooperative about assuring professionals to direct traffic for 2008 Halloween. Nancy M. to attend March BCBA meeting to confirm.

Beth welcomed new Board member, Sanda, and acknowledged that Dusty Gipson and Vince Waskell were also elected but could not attend the meeting.

Officers elected and changes in structure voted upon (to be approved as changes in Bylaws at the General Meeting).
          Donna moved, Mary seconded change in structure. Unanimous.  Now have an Executive Committee including the Past President (Beth Benjamin), President (Michele Mosher) and President Elect (Nancy Gerdt).           Slate of Presidents moved by Beth, seconded by Mary.  Unanimous.           Sheila DeLany reelected as Treasurer; Pat Armstrong will continue as Recording Secretary but not be a Board Member; Donna Zeil elected as alternate Recording Secretary and Correspondence Secretary; Beth Benjamin was elected as Budget Officer.   (Sheila moved and Sanda seconded these officers.  Unanimous)

Roster passed around for corrections/additions; Sign up Sheet for Refreshments for Board meetings circulated also.

Community Connections reports:  Donna discussed new brochure and class listing out for Cabrillo Scotts Valley campus.  Nancy G. discussed Felton Library and effort to renew Measure B early and make it a permanent tax County-wide to support libraries on-going; funds would assure new Felton library building could be funded.  Design plans for structure now at County for Planning Review.

Meeting location options for Board Meetings discussed.  Options include following MCR to new Felton site ($10/month), Highlands Senior Center ($45/month), and Donna is checking BL Fire.

30th Celebration discussion on purchasing bags for “gift” to members and making General Meeting into event focused on 30th.  Nancy M. to distribute email info on bags.

Retreat report by Michele – Judy hired again to lead retreat as she did last year.  Retreat set for Sunday, March 2, 9-2 at Camp Joy.

General Membership Meeting set for Sunday, March 30th, Highlands Park Senior Center.  NO MARCH BOARD MEETING DUE TO RETREAT AND GENERAL MEETING.

Beth will write letter to media about support of Measure O, which needs volunteers to phone and walk precincts.

Green Solutions Workshop (based on NonPoint Source Pollution Brochure), has been moved to Saturday, April 12th, Felton Community Hall.  Will included alternatives to toxic household products you can make yourself at low cost, how to make your home and business less toxic, how to make sure your pets and horses do not pollute the waterways, etc.

Beth distributed copies of annual renewal mailing so we could address some to friends and neighbors and invite them to join.

Board reminded that MCR Phone-a-thon happens in Feb.  VWC night is Monday, February 4, starting at 5 pm.  Dinner provided.
