VWC MINUTES FOR November 13, 2007

IN ATTENDANCE:  Board members: Beth, Michele, Sherry, Mary, Nancy Macy, Sheila, Hilary, Nancy Gerdt, Donna, and general member and secretary, Pat; Guests: general members Sanda Spiegel, Linda Levy, Vince Waskell, Roberta McPherson, Dusty Gipson

Minutes for the October  meeting were approved.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Nancy Macy announced that the workman’s compensation insurance company has changed; liability insurance costs less, covers more (includes adopt-a-highway and river and road clean-up).

Michelle announced that there is a new crosswalk in Felton between Monty’s Log Cabin and the entrance to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

Mary announced a Homeowner’s Protection Act, which she will research and discuss at the December meeting.

There will be a dedication of the playground at Highlands Park on December 5.

INTRODUCTIONS - Because there were several general member guests in attendance, everyone introduced themselves.

Candidates’ Forum – Since there are no local candidates running for office in February, Sherry suggested waiting until May 14 for the Candidates’ Forum.

Mayan Sale – Roberta McPherson announced that the sale will be held on Saturday, December 1, at Don Quixote’s in Felton.  She reported that there will be several new items available; Karen Beastate will be taking photos.  A sign-up sheet was distributed for volunteers to help.

Santa Cruz Mountain Arts Center (SCMAC)  - Linda Levy talked about the art center, the activities they participate in, volunteer opportunities there, and the link-ups they have to other organizations, including the VWC.  Michelle suggested that the VWC post volunteer opportunities on our website.

30th Anniversary Story Book – Cindy Frobish suggested a story book be produced for the VWC’s 30th anniversary.  The story book would contain photographs that have been taken since the VWC was founded.  Cindy offered to sort through the photos and interview the founders and early members of the club for captions to the pictures, and produce the book.  It was moved, seconded and carried to approve one 30-page book.  Cindy will present a budget which will be voted on at the December meeting.

Transportation, Recycling and Environmental Committee Reports were emailed; there were no questions.

Women’s Issues – Sheila and Donna attended a celebration by the Women’s Intercultural Network (WIN) and the California Women’s Agenda (CAWA) on November 2 in San Francisco.

Nomination Committee – Beth reported that all board members except Mary and Nancy Gerdt are up for re-election, and there are many prospective new board members.  There are currently 173 members of the Valley Women’s Club.

Presidency Structure was saved for future discussion after the new board is on board.

Newsletter Name – After much discussion, it was decided to keep the name, Valley Women’s Club of San Lorenzo Valley Newsletter, but change the font, so that Newsletter is larger.

Other community connection reports – The Felton Business Association is considering a Municipal Advisory Council to have their voices heard.  It was agreed by those present that the current supervisor listens and hears.

The December meeting will be held at the Senior Center.  It was suggested that the meeting agenda be posted on the website to the general membership.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Pat Armstrong, Secretary
