Minutes for the November meeting were approved. Announcement - There will be a cookie party at Camp Joy on December 22 at 4 p.m. Mayan Sale – Roberta reported that the Mayan sale was fun and well-attended. The total profit to the VWC was $2,049.52. It was moved, seconded and carried to give $1,000 to the Equity Committee, as has been agreed to in the past. It was suggested that a banner be produced for the sale next year. INTRODUCTIONS - Because there were several guests in attendance, everyone introduced themselves. Measure O – Representatives from the School Board discussed Measure O. If passed, each household will be taxed $49 per year for 30 years. There is no exemption for seniors. Tim Egan, a parent, enthusiastically supported the measure and explained why. After those guests left the meeting, there was a discussion about the measure. Although it was moved, seconded and carried, with one opposing vote, to support the measure, there are several questions: Will there be money for additional staffing? Are the classrooms “impacted”? There was concern about the lack of a definite plan for Phase 3. Music for the Schools – David Blavin of Smurfit addressed the board regarding music scholarships for students, and asking if the VWC could support such scholarships. The board will ask the Scholarship Committee to discuss that issue and present to the board. Also present was Mila Olsen, Music Director for BCE, SLE and SLV Middle School. She talked about a music festival in Pleasanton that students will be attending, which will cost $55 per student. It was moved, seconded and carried to contribute $220 for the trip to the Pleasanton festival, to be divided among the students as needed. Disaster Fair – Sherry reported that there was a grant from PG&E and much advertising, but few people attended. It was suggested in the future to tie the fair into other well-attended outdoor events. Valley Fire Awareness Project – Banners and signs were posted all over the valley, and there were no fires, so maybe people are paying attention. Further signs will be posted regarding fireworks and cigarette butts. 2008 Calendar – Changes and additions were suggested Committees The following ad hoc committees were formed:
