BOARD MEETING MOVES TO FELTON
New Mountain Community Resources Building Provides Venue
The VWC Board meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month, starting at 6:45 pm, and you are welcome to attend. The founding VWC Board met during the day at Highlands Park – where children could play while the meeting was on! Over time, the meetings were moved to the evening, as more Members with jobs wanted to serve. Meetings sometimes rotated from home to home; then they were held at South Street Center in Boulder Creek for many years; and then, for the past several years, they have taken place at Mountain Community Resources in Ben Lomond. Even the Senior Center at Highlands has been used for meetings when larger numbers were expected.
We want to be sure you know that now the meetings will regularly take place in the offices of Mountain Community Resources in Felton. (We’ve worked out way down the Valley!) MCR just purchased the old SLV Unified School District offices, and it was decided in February to continue meeting there in the future.
You should definitely attend the VWC Board meetings frequently. They are always interesting and often have people bringing in information from other organizations, with requests for help or just sharing information. In February, for example, Christina Horvath from the Boulder Creek Rec District came to speak (see related article under Community Connections), and Linda Levy, from Mountain Arts Center updated the Board before the holidays.
If you have items for the Board agenda, please contact President, Michele Mosher, at 335-1135. We won’t have a regular Board meeting on March 11th, due to the Board Retreat and the General Meeting all in the same month.
VWC TO BENEFIT FROM NEW LEAF COMMUNITY DAY
Plan to Shop There Thursday, March 27
New Leaf Market in Felton and Boulder Creek, has a monthly “Community Day,” featuring a different non-profit each time. That organization sets up an information table, and received 5% of the net proceeds from that day! The VWC has been selected to be the featured organization on Thursday, March 27.
There are two things you can do to help! First, plan to do your shopping there on that day – wait until then to buy your vitamins and gifts too! Second, contact Nancy Gerdt (335-3130) if you have time to help staff the information table that day, either in Felton or in Boulder Creek! It’s fun to meet people and to share brochures and information about the VWC – and perhaps bring in new members!
We are very grateful to Bob Locatelli and all the staff at New Leaf for their outstanding commitment to our community. Visit www.newleaf.com for more information.
BOARD RETREAT MARCH 2
The VWC Board has an annual retreat in order to give Board Members a chance to learn more about one another, and to pin down the projects and issues which the VWC should focus on in the upcoming year. It’s important to review the Mission of the VWC, making sure we focus on the values that have guided us for thirty years. For the second year, Judy Sherman, former Director of Mountain Community Resources, will facilitate the retreat, which will be held on Sunday, March 2. We’ll let you know what happens!
NOT TO EARLY TO PUT ASIDE YARD SALE ITEMS
Planned for Saturday, June 14, 9 am-2pm
Quality used items are in demand at the VWC’s Annual Yard Sale to benefit the Scholarship program. While clothing and books are not wanted, used furniture, tools, toys and household goods are all welcome. Please be sure they are clean and attractive. No one wants a mildewed suitcase!Hilary Stanley is coordinating the Sale again, and will open her spare room to Sale items in mid-May. In the meantime, please put aside those things you might otherwise take to Goodwill, and save them for this worthy cause.
Many thanks to those of you who contribute to this event each year. The VWC is very grateful to you.
